Ricky, I agree with your statement, that people use the terms goals and objectives interchangeably. "Goals are typically outcome statements, while objectives are very precise, time-based, and measurable actions that support the completion of goals" (Anonymous, 2015). I had a difficult time getting through to my staff the difference in goals and objectives until I broke down the idea that each objective needed to be SMART. The concept of "SMART" as defined by a class that I took at The Management Center:
S-Specific
M- Measurable
A-Attainable
R-Results Focused
T-Time Bound
After explaining the difference between goals and objectives in this way, it was much easier for my staff to understand.
