Re: Persuasive Writing/Presentations

In the world of communication, persuasion is the ability to influence others to accept your point of view. A communicator

who is persuading an audience will try to convince them to change their attitudes, beliefs, values or judgements.

(Business Communication for Success, 2012)  Being persuasive involve verbal and nonverbal communication, such as

body language, to convince your audience to agree with your position.  Charismatic communicators have exceptional

communication skills which motivates and empowers an audience. A communicator who possess charisma is a

compassionate visionary who leads an audience to a sense of togetherness or unity.  Both persuasive and charismatic

communicators are driven by their beliefs.  These communicators expect a call to action and want to see a change in their

audience.

Mother Teresa, who was a great humanitarian started working for the poor in the 1950's. She was dedicated to helping

those less fortunate had a vision of empowering poor people worldwide.  Because of her passion and dedication, Mother

Teresa inspired others to follow her just as a charismatic leader or communicator does. Steve Jobs was a master at

persuading consumers to fall in love and purchase Apple products.  He understood his audience and had a way with words

that were effective in convincing people to invest in his products.

Willie, I enjoyed reading your response to this week's question.  Eminem and Jesse Williams are two influential celebrities

who are prolific with words.  Both persuasive and charismatic speakers must be convincing.  Being able to make an

audience internalize their viewpoint, and change their belief about something is the goal of these kind of speakers.

Persuasive and charismatic speakers can't bore the audience with a long drawn out speech about nothing.  These speakers

must get into the audience heads and be impressive.

Professor Wells, I believe that the skill of persuasion comes naturally due to the high level of self-confidence and self-

esteem within a person.  I won't say that the skill of persuasion can't be learned, but the individual has to already possess

a positive attitude and strong belief in themselves to be successful at this skill.

Shari, I agree that personality in business is very important.  Most persuasive and charismatic speakers possess a natural

disposition that drives them to influence others.  Most extraverts such as Obama and TD Jakes can influence people to

change their mindset and experience new things.  TD Jakes is one of my favorite inspirational speaker/preachers.

Personally, his messages help me through a lot of unsure and hard times in life.  Jakes charismatic way of presenting

message promotes a "call to action" among his audience viewers.
