Are you a team player? What is the difference in a group and a team? Discuss your experience as a team member (positive or negative). Were you the team leader? Why are groups/teams so important to organizations?

Am I a team player? Yes, I think I am. I think the difference in a group and a team is a team is made of individuals within already within an organization with specific goals and specific roles for those on the team. These members usually follow orders set by their leader. A group I think is a group or an assembly of people with the same interest at the same place. There may not be a leader of the group if there's no project going on. My experience as a team member has been tiresome. We all work together to reach our goal but the work is so intense not just for me but for the whole team. The positive thing about that is we all do our fair share. No, I was not the team leader. I believe groups and teams are important to organizations because more can be accomplished by working together than individually.

When I think of a team, I'm reminded of a sports team. Each of these team members have a specific tasks to perform in order to achieve a specific goal - win the game. When I think of a group, I think of an elevator. Many people gather to ride the elevator, but they don't have a common goal, they are only riding in the same direction, each getting off on a different floor. Do you agree?

Yes ma'am, I agree. And, I must admit that is the best definition I have ever heard. I had the hardest time trying to put the definition into words. The group definition really set the two apart. The example of riding an elevator together but getting off on different floors was great. Thanks for helping me to better understand the difference between the two.

Yes I am a team player. The difference between a group and team is that in a group your working toward a common goal but in the end your kinda only looking out for your personal results and in a team you work for everyone results. I was on the basketball team in 9th grade, I wasn't the team leader, but we were all just as good and worked together to win games. I feel that groups and teams are important to organizations because if there is tension in the work place, working in groups and teams can help eliminate problems in the work place.
