It is important to conduct an audience analysis prior to giving a presentation so that your listeners will respond as you wish. The audience knowledge is what level they are at and how much information you need to give to them. What do they want to know? What do they need to know? It's important to satisfy their expectations. Otherwise, my presentation will be seen as a failure for them.

If my purpose was to persuade my audience to do something, their behavior after my speech can tell me if I did in fact persuade them.

It is important because you have to be to adapt to different audiences. You have to be careful about what you say to different audiences because if you say what the audience doesn't like, then you have a huge problem and it will result as a failure.

Example - if my speech is about video games and I switch up the topic about something else, my audience would not listen to me because my speech is not consistent.

Here's a TIP for you: Romell, please be sure to read your comments out loud before you submit it. For instance, in your first sentence you left out a word, I believe it is "able". If you had read that out loud to yourself, you would have caught that error. Try it!! Good job.

It is very important that you understand the audience you are targeting. Knowing things like age, religion, sexual orientation allows you to adapt your speech so that it reaches your audiences level of understanding. For example you should always know the age demographic of your audience so that you can make sure that you speech is age appropriate. You always want to be sure you are not offending anyone. The analysis helps you to know who's in the audience allowing you time to perfect your speech so that you can create a link or common ground. This type of speech tweeking allows the audience to understand and respond favorably.

You are correct Sherita. The audiences behavior lets you know how your speech went over. Adapting your message to fit your audience helps you create common ground and links you two together which allows the audience to respond favorably at the end. This is very important!!
