As a team player, I understand the concept of working together for a common goal and the importance of synergy. One of the
biggest difference between a group and a team is the way they operate to achieve a goal. A group can be made up of three or
more people who are a part of a department or unit but who work independently towards their common goal. A team can be
made up of three or more people who each bring their skills to the table to work together to achieve a common goal. Recently,
I worked on a team made up of four church members to develop a plan for an event that would provide free services to the
homeless. Each team member had experience in some area of public service. Together our team developed a plan for a
successful event. Groups and teams are important to an organization because they bring people together from diverse
backgrounds, ethnicity, educational and skill levels to achieve a common goal for the good of an organization.
